+ How do we apply?

All submissions must be made via one of our three online application forms:

Royal Navy & Royal Marines (specifically for serving RNRM personnel only).

General Application (for all other applications, including tri-services). Before being given access to the form, you will be required to answer a series of questions which will clarify whether or not you are eligible to apply.

Sea Cadets (applications for up to a maximum of £5,000 should be made by the unit chairperson to The Gosling Foundation Cadet Fund (a sub-committee of The Gosling Foundation).

+ When can we apply?

The Gosling Foundation

Applications are accepted throughout the year and the assessment process takes around six weeks. As a general rule, the application should be submitted at least two months in advance of funds being required.

The Gosling Foundation Sea Cadet Fund

There are two main windows for applications to The Gosling Foundation Sea Cadet Fund: by 1200hrs (London time) on 30 June and 31 December.

+ How much can we apply for?

The minimum grant amount you can apply for is £5,000. The Trustees may award more or less than the amount requested.

+ Do you fund the entire cost of the project?

The Trustees strongly recommend that organisations show that they are looking to raise funds from a variety of sources, and not solely from The Gosling Foundation. Whilst they may occasionally fully fund a project, this is done at their discretion.

+ DO YOU OFFER BOTH SINGLE AND MULTI-YEAR FUNDING?

The Gosling Foundation offers both single and multi-year funding. Multi-year funding is usually for a maximum of three years.

+ WILL OUR APPLICATION BE ACKNOWLEDGED?

As soon as your application is submitted, you will receive an automated response from our grant management system.

+ IF WE’RE SUCCESSFUL, HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO RECEIVE THE GRANT?

Once you receive confirmation that your application has been successful, you should allow a minimum of 4 weeks for the payment to be processed.

+ CAN WE RE-APPLY AND IF SO, HOW SOON?

The Trustees ask that unsuccessful applicants wait one calendar year from the date they receive notification of the unsuccessful outcome of their application before reapplying.

Grant recipients may apply again two calendar years from the date they receive the funds into their account.

+ DO YOU OFFER FEEDBACK ON UNSUCCESSFUL APPLICATIONS?

Due to the number of submissions we receive, we are unable to offer individual feedback.

+ WHAT IS YOUR GRANT REPORTING PROCEDURE?

All successful applicants will be sent a link to a grant report form which they will be required to complete and submit on completion of the project.

+ HOW SHOULD WE CREDIT THE GOSLING FOUNDATION IF OUR APPLICATION IS SUCCESSFUL?

If you’d like to acknowledge The Gosling Foundation by using either our name or our logo, then please email us at office@thegoslingfoundation.com. If we agree to the use of our logo, this will be emailed to you together with our brand guidelines. We also ask to see the proposed use of our logo on your material/s for approval prior to publication.

+ DO WE HAVE TO BE A REGISTERED CHARITY TO APPLY?

We support charities and CIO'S (charitable incorporated organisations) and CIC'S (community interest companies) registered and working in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. We also accept applications directly from serving members of the Royal Navy and Royal Marines for projects that benefit multiple serving personnel.

+ DO YOU FUND PROJECTS OVERSEAS?

We don’t fund charities or their projects outside of England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. We do however accept applications from serving personnel in the Royal Navy/Royal Marines based overseas.

+ WHAT DO YOU FUND?

+ DO YOU PROVIDE UNRESTRICTED FUNDING?

We do not provide unrestricted funding. Please see our funding criteria for more information.

+ DO YOU EVER GIVE CORE FUNDING?

We do not give core funding (i.e. core activities of an organisation such as general management, communications, HR, fundraising, finance, utilities or ongoing it costs). However, if The Gosling Foundation is funding a project, the Trustees may contribute an amount towards the grantee’s core costs. The amount is at the Trustees’ discretion but is usually around 5% of the total project cost. Please refer to our Funding Information page for further details.

+ DO YOU FUND EQUIPMENT?

Yes, we fund furniture and equipment. We do not fund medical equipment.

Generally we do not fund minibuses or other vehicles, since we would recommend hiring them as and when needed. We are open to funding applications for this.

+ ARE THERE ANY RESTRICTIONS ON INCOME OR PROJECT COSTS?

We only accept applications from registered charities/CIO'S/CIC'S that have an income of less than £30 million per annum.

Whilst your total project costs must be more than £5,000, there’s no upper limit.

We don’t fund individuals.

+ DO YOU FUND HERITAGE OR CONSERVATION PROJECTS?

Whilst we occasionally fund naval heritage projects, we don’t accept unsolicited applications for them. We do not fund conservation projects.

+ DO YOU FUND ORGANISATIONS OR PROJECTS WHERE THE BENEFICIARIES ARE TRI-SERVICE, OR ONLY FROM THE ARMY OR THE RAF?

Yes, we fund projects and organisations where the beneficiaries are tri-service, or only from the army or the RAF - provided they fit within our other focus areas. Applications should be made in the Royal Navy & Royal Marines section.

+ DO YOU FUND CHURCHES OR OTHER RELIGIOUS BODIES?

No, we don’t fund churches or other religious bodies. If a church (or other religious body) is also a registered charity, CIO or CIC, and has strong evidence of secular activity that benefits a broad section of the local community, then it is eligible to apply.

+ DO YOU FUND MEDICAL RESEARCH PROJECTS?

We don’t fund medical research projects or medical equipment.

+ DO YOU FUND HOSPICES?

No, we don’t fund hospices.
